With the arrival of autumn, it is great opportunity to point out all the different colors and shapes of autumn leaves to the kids. Think of the love heart shaped beech and the serrated chestnut forms, with deep lined wrinkles on the surface.
The texture and shape of the leaves, inspired me to create one very large leaf - the Rhubarb leaf - and using white cement to create sweet stepping stones for in the garden. Hardwearing with a natural texture, these stepping stones are sweet additions to a garden - especially with kids - and are super easy to do.
What you need
To prepare the cake tins, line them in cling film, making sure all areas are covered. Then take your rhubarb leaf and lay it face up in the table with the shiny side up.
Place the cake tin base on on top of your leaf and use the knife to cut the leaf into the circle.
Empty your cement mix into the bucket and stir in water.
Pour your mix into your cake base and even out using a spatula
Leave to set in a dry place for about 24 hours. Carefully remove the 'cement' cake by tipping the base upside down.
Remove the cling film and pull off the leaf
Now you have a revealed a stunning leaf moulded stepping stone which looks so beatiful in the lawn. They also look stunning hung on the wall. Just add hooks to the back and they become your very own art works. It really is that simple so get creating!!
