- November Garden Jobs
Sweep up leaves regularly. Not only do they look untidy but underneath each leaf it is dark, warm and wet – perfect conditions for moss.
If you haven’t already aerated your lawn there is still time to do it before winter sets in. Use a lawn aerator or spike with a garden fork at regular intervals.
Prune apple and pear trees anytime between now and February avoiding frosty conditions.
Plant spring bulbs now. November is perfect to plant Tulips, Daffodils and Alliums.
November is a good time (weather permitting) to add well rotted manure or compost to the bare vegetable area and then cover with black plastic to prevent the nutrients being leached out of the soil.
You can now prune your Roses. Prune back bush roses by 50% and tidy up deciduous shrubs.
If you haven’t lifted your Dahlia’s yet then now is the time to do it. You can still divide your herbaceous perennials now and cut back any yellowing leaves.
Don’t forget about the birds. It’s time to put the bird food out.
If you would like to plant a beautiful Magnolia tree then now is the perfect time to get the tree in the ground and ensure it is nicely established.
Clear out the glasshouse; clean and air it so that it is ready for the next growing season.
