Woodie’s Heroes Fundraising for Down Syndrome Ireland

Meet Maisie

Six-year-old Maisie Flanagan is full of energy. She loves music, dancing, playing with her dolls and spending time outdoors.​

Through Woodie's Heroes, Maisie is helping highlight the invaluable support Down Syndrome Ireland provides to children with Down syndrome and their families across Ireland.​

Born with Down syndrome and a hole in her heart, Maisie faced challenges from an early age. With the support ofher family and specialist services, however, she has continued to thrive.​

From infancy, Down Syndrome Ireland has been there to support Maisie and her parents through speech and language therapy, practical guidance and a welcoming network of families who understand the journey they are on.​

Maisie’s Mum Emer says, "Speech and language has probably been the biggest support for us. You could really see Maisie's development happening over time. Even in the last month alone, her speech has come on so much more. It's not even just for Maisie - it's for us as parents too. Being able to talk to other families, share experiences and learnfrom one another has been so important. They've always been there for us and we've built such a strong connection with everyone involved."​

Today, Maisie continues to flourish, supported by her family, her community and the expertise of Down Syndrome Ireland.​
