Woodie's first retail operation was opened in June 1987 at Walkinstown. This store proved successful and led to the opening of a second store at Glasnevin in April 1988. The continued successes of the retail operation led to two new store openings in 1990, one in Sallynoggin and the other in Cork. Cork was the first of the Superstores with the product range being significantly extended.

We are committed to expanding our business, identifying and meeting the needs of our extensive customer base. Even though Woodie's is the biggest chain of DIY retail Superstores in Ireland we have ambitious plans for the future.

Introduction

Woodie’s is sharing their Gender Pay Gap Report 2022 which is now required under ‘The Gender Pay Gap Information Act 2022’.

Our approach to employee reward is gender neutral by design. We are confident that any gaps between male and female pay and bonus are driven by the structure of our workforce.

Our data shows we have fewer women in senior roles and the majority of these are at our senior management team level; we also have a large number of women working in support roles that have a fixed bonus with a capped maximum. When structural factors such as these are removed, the differences in reward can be largely explained by individual performance, experience and skill sets.

At Woodie’s we promote equality, and are proud to be a welcoming, inclusive, diverse and safe place to work for everyone. In particular, we are working hard to support more women with career development into senior roles and to encourage more female apprentices. We actively support gender equality initiatives across our business such as International Women’s Day in March to highlight the career opportunities we have for women in Woodie’s.

The data within the report was gathered on 30th June 2022. As of this point there were 1,582 employees in the business.

Gender Pay and Equal Pay

The gender pay gap is a figure that measures the difference in the average earnings of men and women, regardless of the nature of their work, across the business.

This is different to equal pay, which looks at the individual level and is about ensuring that men and women are paid the same for carrying out the same work, or work of equal value.

The evaluation of our gender pay data indicates that the difference in average pay is due to a larger number of men being in more senior, higher paid roles.

Our Aims

Using the data from our Gender Pay Gap Report we are committed to:

  • Guiding and developing a career path to suit colleagues needs with an unbiased opinion.
  • Continuously reviewing our attraction and recruitment approach to ensure there is no unconscious bias throughout the process.
  • Updating and reviewing our family leave policies to ensure they are up to date and supportive to all colleagues and future candidates within the business.
