Woodie’s Heroes Fundraising for Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland

Meet Aidan and his assistance dog, Glen
Aidan is 7 years old and lives in Ashbourne, Co. Meath with his parents Addi and John, and his brother Rory (4). Aidan was diagnosed with autism and global developmental delay at age three. As he grew older and stronger, outings became increasingly challenging for the family as Aidan would bolt off and run into potentially dangerous situations.
Glen, the golden retriever, came bounding into their lives and changed everything! The family quickly noticed the difference Glen made to Aidan, providing him with independence and making trips to the local shop a more manageable and enjoyable task. Today, the pair are now affectionately known as ‘the terrible twosome’!
Aidan’s dad John explained the positive impact that AADI made on their family: “It transforms the life of a child who often feels overlooked by society. It gives us a sense of belonging and helps us feel more included, rather than isolated”.
With the help of Woodie’s Heroes…
These incredible dogs do so much more than offer companionship. They keep autistic children safe from danger, reduce anxiety in overwhelming situations, and bring a sense of calm to families who have often faced years of stress and uncertainty.
Every dog is carefully trained to meet a child’s unique needs - and each one has the power to transform not just a child’s world, but their entire family’s too.
It costs over €25,000 to train and support just one dog. But thanks to your kindness, we’re giving children across Ireland the chance to feel safer, more connected, and more confident every day.
