Woodie’s Heroes Fundraising for Childline by ISPCC

Meet Marty- Childline Ambassador

Broadcaster and DJ Marty Guilfoyle has spent more than two years volunteering with ISPCC Childline, giving his time each week to support children and young people when they need someone to listen.​

Through Woodie's Heroes, Marty is helping raise awareness of Childline's vital work and encouraging people to support a service that thousands of children rely on every year.

Marty first became involved after seeing a call for volunteers. Although he initially planned to simply share the appeal on social media, he decided to volunteer himself - a decision that has become one of the most rewarding experiences of his life.

Each week, Marty supports children and young people through regular and overnight volunteer shifts. Many of the conversations centre around issues including social media pressures, friendships, family relationships and mental wellbeing.​

He says the most rewarding part of volunteering is helping young people feel heard, supported and empowered.​

Marty also believes it's important that every child knows Childline is there whenever they need someone to talk to.​

"Young people know that when they contact Childline, they can speak openly and confidentially. Sometimes just having someone listen canmake a huge difference. Volunteering with Childline has been incredibly rewarding and I would encourage everyone to support Woodie's Heroes so that services like this can continue to be there for children and young people across Ireland."​
