  • 1 Remove the lid from the top of the cistern of the toilet and set aside in a safe place.
  • 2 Unhook the chain from the skinny rod of the handle inside the cistern. If you can’t do this using your fingers, use a needle nose pliers.
  • 3 Loosen the screw that clamps the skinny rod to the handle.
  • 4 Remove the nut inside the cistern that holds the handle in place. Screw off in a clockwise direction, as this is a reverse threaded nut. Use the adjustable wrench if necessary.
  • 5 Remove the old flush handle and throw away.
  • 6 nsert the new flush handle and replace the nut on the handle inside the cistern. Remember to turn the nut in a counter-clockwise direction because it is reverse threaded. Tighten the nut using the adjustable wrench.
  • 7 Re-attach the chain to the end of the skinny rod on the new handle.
  • 8 Tighten the screw that secures the skinny rod to the handle.
  • 9 Test the handle to make sure the toilet is flushing properly.
