How to Paint a Pattern on Furniture

Upcycling an item of furniture is the perfect way to add your own personal touches. Why not add a pattern or mix and match colours. It is the perfect shortcut to create your own customised piece. Let us show you how.


What you will need

  • Paint Brushes
  • Johnstone's Satin Paint
  • Screwdriver
  • Measuring Tape
  • Frog Tape
  • Pencil
  • Small Roller & Tray
  • Finishing Wax
  • Clean Cloth

  • 1 Protect any surfaces with dust sheets.
  • 2 Remove any fixtures that don’t need to be painted and using a damp cloth remove any dirt and dust.
  • 3 Measure out pattern that you want to paint.
  • 4 Mark out pattern with a pencil.
  • 5 Use Frog tape to cover areas not to be painted.
  • 6 Apply a base coat of paint and leave to fully dry.
  • 7 Apply additional coats as required.
  • 8 Leave to fully dry.
  • 9 Using a cloth, apply a layer of finishing wax to any table top surfaces.
  • 10 Carefully remove any masking tape.
  • 11 Reapply any fixtures.
