Space Saving Ideas

Utilising all the space you have in your home can instantly make it feel bigger with more breathing room. Below are some of our space saving and decluttering ideas to help you maximise the space in your home.

Home Organisation

Decluttering and organising your home is a great way to make it more spacious. You can organise and declutter by using storage boxes and getting rid of unnecessary items. If you like to hold onto certain items for personal or sentimental reasons, it’s a good idea to create a space for them with a storage box. Anything you feel like you don’t want to part with, but is taking up space you’d rather have free, pop into a storage box, and put it away with the rest of your stored items, like in an attic or shed.

Storage boxes and containers are great ways to organise and declutter counter space in kitchens and bathrooms, as well as on other tables and surfaces where you might house a lot of items.

Bedrooms tend to be one of the more neglected rooms in the home when it comes to organising and decluttering. A clear space can provide a clear mind, and what better place to have a clear mind than in the room you sleep in! Read our ideas on how to maximise your bedroom space here.

Wall Mounting

Take advantage of vertical spaces with wall-mounted storage solutions and decor, like shelving, mirrors, and lighting, to artwork and photo frames. It's an easy, yet effective way to declutter and free up floor space, enhancing your room’s potential. By clearing floorspace and surfaces of objects that can be hung up and mounted, you’re creating an airy, decluttered feel. You’ll also leave room for additional or larger furniture too.

Radiator Covers

While their main purpose is to provide protection from the heat of a radiator, radiator covers can also give you a little bit of extra space for displaying décor. This can also help to elevate the look and feel of a room. This is particularly useful for smaller areas, like a hallway, where you might need somewhere to display a bowl for keys, a house phone or decorative items like candles, photo frames and houseplants. Depending on the type of finish you choose for your radiator cover, you can even paint it to tie in with the colour scheme of the room. Alternatively, painting it the same colour as your wall will create a more seamless look.

Mini Home Refresh Ideas

In the mood for a new look and feel at home but not prepared for a major renovation? Why not try one of our mini home refresh ideas below instead! From DIY projects to home décor updates, we’ve got plenty of ideas to get you inspired and kickstart your home improvement.

Update Home Décor

Updating a room’s décor can do a lot more than you might think to make it feel like a brand new space. If you feel a room is looking a bit stale and needs freshening up, then updating the décor might be the best option for you! Some of the best rooms to start with are your bathroom, kitchen and living room.

A bathroom makeover can be as simple as updating the accessories like toothbrush holders, soap dishes and toilet brushes. It can also include bigger changes like a new toilet seat, additional fixtures, like towel hooks and loo roll holders, or a new mirror. Other changes you can make to the décor include, updating the bath mat and shower curtain, getting new storage baskets and cosmetic organisers, and buying new towels. These minor changes will make a major difference to the overall look and feel of your bathroom.

If an entirely new kitchen isn’t on your to do list, then simply updating its décor can make it feel like new. From updated kitchenware, tea towels and kitchen storage, to the addition of wall art, a clock and houseplants, each new addition can instantly make your kitchen feel fresh.

Your living room is one of the easiest rooms to transform without needing to completely renovate. Updating your colour scheme using cushions, throws, curtains, and rugs as accent pieces can immediately improve the room’s overall aesthetic. Other décor like, artwork, photo frames, a clock, candles, mirrors, and houseplants can also make your living room feel brand new.

Lighting

A central feature in every room, lighting can add to the overall look and feel of a room. Whether it’s a particular style, like industrial lighting or a chandelier, or a certain colour of lampshade that matches the rest of the décor in the room, lighting can play a big part in tying everything together.

Revive Metal & Exterior Wood

Another good way to instantly refresh your home is to bring any exterior wood and metal around your home back to life. For metal, you can do this by using a wire brush to remove any old, loose paint and rust, followed by degreasing it with white spirits, before priming and adding the new layer of paint. For wood, it’s best to clean and sand down the surface before adding a primer and a fresh coat of wood paint, varnish, stain, or preservers. Find more information on how to paint metal and exterior wood here.

Home Maintenance

Nothing’s worse than staring at a crack or hole in your wall or wood around your home. Give your home an instant lift by repairing these issues. Use ready mixed filler for holes and hairline cracks on your walls and a wood filler for cracks in wood. Alternatively, you can use decorative caulk or a foam and powder filler to fix the cracks and holes too. These are ideal for preparing a surface to be re-painted or wallpapered. You can also add fresh sealant to any areas you feel need a boost, such as around your windows, sinks, showers, and baths. This also tends to wear away over time so it’s always a good idea to make sure it’s redone when necessary.

Re-grout & Paint Tiles

Are your tiles looking a little dull but not ready to replace them yet? Give them a boost by re-grouting or even painting your tiles a new shade. Re-grouting your tiles will fix any cracking or discoloration, leaving them looking freshly laid. This can be done on wall, floor or backsplash tiling to instantly improve their appearance. Find out how to re-grout your tiles here. If you feel like the colour of your tiles isn’t fitting in with the rest of your room’s décor but you don’t want to replace them, you can always paint them instead! Choose from a range of colours here.
